I have an insatiable comic addiction. I can’t get enough. Comic books, graphic novels, manga, large format, collections, indie paperbacks, tried and true superheroes…I do not discriminate. I love them all equally and for different reasons. The pain I am feeling at being separated from following Fables is excruciating, and I won’t even begin to get into the manga detox. Although, not being able to purchase graphic novels in English has probably cut a substantial amount of weight out of my backpack.
Angouleme, France understands me. The largest comic festival in Europe has been held here every year since 1974. They have a new beautiful comic museum complete with reading areas, Le Musee de la Bande Dessinee, the comic equivalent to the Louvre. The museum happens to have a great type identity as well:
I think one of the most wonderful aspects of this town is what can be found around the city. Among the many ancient walls and buildings, tucked in alleyways and on entire facades, you can find work by various comic artists. The hunt is definitely part of the fun, although you can get a map.
